Non-Profit
Ownership:
WCPE is owned and operated by the Educational Information Corporation, a
North Carolina non-profit broadcasting organization. The Corporation
was formed in 1973 and began operating WCPE in July of 1978. The
Corporation holds a federal 501 (c)(3) Public Charity Exemption
Certificate and the corresponding certificate from the State of North
Carolina.
Programming:
WCPE believes that classical music is an integral part of the quality of
life in our communities. Accordingly, WCPE's mission is to make Great
Classical Music available to the public 24 hours a
day.
WCPE stands alone as the
Piedmont area's sole source of the Metropolitan Opera radio
broadcast season.
WCPE is also the home of such listener-friendly programming as the WCPE Opera House every Thursday evening, the WCPE Saturday Evening Request Program, and Preview!, the Sunday evening show that previews the newest classical releases and announces upcoming local classical events.
Publications:
The WCPE Program Guide is published four times a year as a means to enhance appreciation and understanding of classical music. It is distributed to supporters of the station.

Philosophy:
WCPE has adhered to one philosophy since 1982: to deliver the finest classical music programming and the highest quality broadcast signal around the clock. With the emergence of satellite and Internet technology, that commitment now embraces a global audience.
For individuals, civic organizations, and businesses, WCPE enhances the cultural climate of the Piedmont. Studies citing the high quality of life in the area consistently name WCPE as a factor.
When one combines the dedication of its committed volunteers and staff, the financial support of its loyal listeners, and grants from caring businesses and
foundations, it adds up to a remarkable example of community
involvement, partnership, and enrichment that will continue to
benefit the Piedmont area for years to come.
Technology:
State-of-the-art studio and transmitter equipment, including our digital satellite uplink, and internet streaming ensure that WCPE consistently provides the highest quality stereo signal for our listeners.
Community Service:
WCPE gained the distinction of being the only public radio station in the
eastern half of North Carolina to stay on the air during Hurricane
Fran in 1996, providing weather information directly from the
National Weather Service, and acting as an Emergency Broadcast Relay
station. As part of our commitment to provide the best possible
service to our listeners, WCPE maintains backup systems that provide
continuous broadcast and community service, regardless of inclement
weather or power outages.
TheClassicalStation.org:
This website highlights special programming and other station activities, and offers listeners a convenient way to interact through e-mail. We stream our audio online 24 hours a day in five formats -- MP3, RealAudio, QuickTime, Ogg Vorbis and Windows Media, as well on the next generation IPv6 -- to make Great Classical Music accessible to the broadest range of listeners.
