Alissa Bernholc has had a lifelong connection with classical music, beginning with her father, an audio-visual technician who filled their home with the sounds of classical and Broadway music. She fondly remembers playing a game with him to guess the composers of pieces playing on the radio.
Alissa first became involved with WCPE over 30 years ago, volunteering after being invited to a staff Halloween party, where her ability to pronounce composers’ names caught the attention of the team. Although initially nervous, Alissa’s love for the music and the station brought her back to announcing after retirement. She now enjoys sharing her knowledge of classical music with listeners and encouraging others to volunteer.
Alissa’s favorite musical period spans the Romantic and early modern eras, and she is particularly fond of composers such as Rachmaninoff, Gershwin and Bartok, while also appreciating the beauty of lesser-known composers. Alissa’s passion for music is further demonstrated through her piano lessons, where she is currently working on pieces by Bach, Satie, and Gershwin.
Today, she is proud to be part of The Classical Station’s mission to engage and inspire listeners through the joy of Great Classical Music.
