From the pen of German composer Karl Stamitz (1745-1801) comes music that strikes me as listenable as the music of Mozart and Haydn. Michael Alexander Willens conducts the Cologne Academy in a performance of Symphony in G, Op. 2 No. 3. On the Chandos label.

Sir William Walton, arr. by Christopher Palmer: Troilus and Cressida, Symphonic Suite
City of Birmingham Symphony, Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla

Lithuanian conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla recently signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. She conducts the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Sir William Walton’s Troilus and Cressida, Symphonic Suite. The CD on the DG label is entitled Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla: The British Project.

Augustin had long wanted to record the Bach Partitas and Sonatas for Violin. He used a Baroque bow to observe historically-informed practice. On the Warner Classics label.

W.A. Mozart: String Quartet No. 17 in B flat, K. 458 “Hunt”
Cuarteto Casals

The fourth of Mozart’s string quartets he dedicated to Josef Haydn. On the Harmonia Munid label. Xuartet Casals “is the quartet in residence at the Koninklijk Conservaotrium Den Haag and at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya in Barcelona, where all four members reside.  On the Harmonia Mundi label.

Florence Price: Adoration for violin and piano
Randall Goosby, violin; Zhu Wang, piano

This is the first recording of a recently discovered work by American composer Florence Price (1887-1953). Randall Goosby is a student and protegé of Itzhak Perlman.

Claude Debussy: En Bateau from Petite Suite
Paul Lewis and Steven Osborne, piano

Twenty-seven tracks of French piano music for four hands performed by Paul Lewis and Steven Osborne make for a delightful listening experience. The CD is entitled French Duets.

Michael Morpurgo and Olivia Colman, narration

Michael Morpurgo is a celebrated British children’s author. Olivia Colman won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Favourite, and has started as Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown. Released on Decca.
