Bruce Matheny

Bruce Matheny is originally from Virginia and made North Carolina his home many years ago while studying French and computer science at East Carolina University.

He was classically trained in playing the piano and tuba and taught himself guitar and bass guitar for his high school jazz band. In addition to playing and listening to music, he occasionally writes songs, including a classical piano sonata. His broadcasting days began many years ago in college radio at WZMB with alternative rock, classic rock, jazz, and a blues show that he created. He served as assistant program director and continued with a stint in professional radio at WNCT, running two radio stations at the same time (AM rock and FM classical), thanks to reel-to-reel tape players. Beginning in 2015, after a long hiatus, he is back on the airwaves again, volunteering his time for WCPE.

He enjoys volunteering as a recreational league soccer coach, competing in triathlons, and exploring photography, and currently works in the computer field at Duke University Health System. His wife and two teenage children still don’t understand why he would volunteer his time to host a radio show, including some Friday nights.
