Helen Bowman grew up in Cary in the 1970s and moved to Chicago in 1978 but always considered this area her home. She returned to North Carolina to attend college at Wake Forest University. While there, she worked operating the “board” at the local classical radio station, WFDD, and the student-run alternative music station, WAKE. While considering a career in communications, she ultimately pursued a degree in nursing, receiving her degree with honors from UNC. Having three kids involved with music instilled a renewed music appreciation and a hope to return to radio. She is a big fan of any cello, guitar, trumpet, and clarinet solo and was fortunate to sit in the first row when Yo-Yo Ma came to Meymandi Concert Hall years ago.
Helen is a nurse, CPR instructor, marching band volunteer, and advisor with a local venture crew of the Boy Scouts of America. Seeking adventures, she scuba dives, backpacks, skydives (indoor), and likes to travel. She enjoys working in the museum shop at the NC Museum of Natural Science part-time.
