WCPE Honors Women’s Equality Day

Wake Forest, N.C. (August 19, 2012) —WCPE’s Music Director William Woltz announces a celebration of Women’s Equality Day, August 26, 2013. The event honors female composers, conductors and performers commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.

“We will hear from Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn,” says Woltz who is also co-host of Allegro. “Jennifer Higdon, Joan Tower and other composers who are shaping today’s Classical landscape will be featured.”

Here is a partial list of the day’s celebration:

  • 9:00 a.m. Schumann, C.: Piano Concerto in A Minor
  • 2:00 p.m. Mendelssohn-Hensel: Sonata movement in E
  • 3:00 p.m. Beach: Symphony in E Minor (Gaelic)
  • 6:00 p.m. Smyth: Overture from The Wreckers
  • 10:00 p.m. Higdon: “Legacy”

“This is a great opportunity to feature women in Classical music,” he continues.
