WCPE “Preview!” Features Chiara String Quartet

Interview with Eastern Music Festival Performers Airs Sunday, August 31

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (August 27, 2008)—TheClassicalStation.org announces today that its weekly program “Preview!” will feature an interview with members of the Chiara String Quartet. The interview can be heard during the station’s Sunday, August 31 program that airs from 6-9 p.m.

The quartet will be interviewed by “A Classical Lunch” host Larry Kirwan. The Chiara String Quartet is one of a growing number of ensembles and young Classical musicians who are taking their eclectic sets to the clubs, bars, downtown coffee shops and other small, intimate venues, to reach a new breed of potential fans.

“I'm looking forward to talking to them about their scheduled sweep of North Carolina with performances in Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh,” says Kirwan. “Most of the performances are in concert halls on university campuses, but one is at Mack and Mack Clothing Store in Greensboro, with no posted set list. They've been know to play cover tunes by Prince, so anything is possible!”

The group will perform at the EMF Fringe Concert at Mack and Mack on Thursday, September 8. Other dates are September 5 and 6 at Memorial Hall in Chapel Hill, September 6 in Nelson Music Room in Durham and September 7 at Fletcher Opera Theatre in Raleigh. All venues are in North Carolina.

“Preview!” is a weekly feature that airs every Sunday evening from 6–9 p.m. ET and presents the latest in classical recordings and upcoming classical events. WCPE’s live broadcast of Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day can be accessed around the globe in several ways: on-line streaming in multiple formats, including IPv6; local cable television systems; and traditional radio broadcasting. A complete list of the ways WCPE is available with instructions for cable and satellite reception can be found at theclassicalstation.org/listen.shtml

About Chiara String Quartet:

Chiara (key-ARE-uh) is an Italian word, meaning "clear, pure, or light." The Chiara Quartet (Rebecca Fischer, Julie Yoon violin; Jonah Sirota, viola; Gregory Beaver, cello) has forged a new path for the string quartet medium. In the concert hall and in intimate galleries and clubs, the Chiara embraces a "no-holds-barred" approach (The Strad). The group presents exhilarating contemporary works through their club tours and New Voice Singles recordings to a growing circle of newcomers and committed chamber music fans alike, while exploring more established repertoire with fresh ears. More information about the Chiara Quartet can be found online at www.chiaraquartet.net and on MySpace at www.myspace.com/chiarastringquartet.
