WCPE Offers Special Programming for the Winter Holidays

TheClassicalStation.org Presents Sacred and Secular Classical Favorites


WAKE FOREST, N.C. (December 12, 2007) —
William Woltz, music director for WCPE, announces the stations seasonal music offerings for December 17 through 25.

 

 

WCPE will celebrate the season with multiple musical offerings every day. The week-long musical look at the season will blend many traditions and cultures. Christian selections include: “Adoration of the Magi” by Ottorino Respighi, December 17 at noon ET; “Silent Night” by Franz Gruber, December 21 at 10 p.m. ET; and “Jesu Bambino” by Pietro Yon, December 23 at 2 p.m. ET. Festive holiday carols will be offered daily. Secular offerings include: “Skater’s Waltz” by Emile Waldteufel, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. ET; “The Fantastic Toy Shop” by Antonio Rossini, December 20 at 9 a.m. ET; and “Sleigh Ride” by Fredrick Delius December 21 at 8 a.m. ET.

“Don’t miss 'A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols' broadcast live from King’s College, Cambridge, at 10 a.m. ET on Christmas Eve,” says Woltz. “Then at 4 p.m. that day, WCPE will present a complete performance of Handel's Messiah.”

Listeners will be treated to special operatic selections will air December 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. ET. A previously recorded program of the late Al Ruocchio, “The Great Sacred Music of Christmas,” will offer seasonal favorites sung by stars of the opera stage.

The Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day offered by WCPE transcends belief systems, being crafted by artists from all traditions and listened to by a global audience reflective of the world’s diversity. Found throughout WCPE’s programming, are the traditions of people from all walks of life.

WCPE’s live broadcast of Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day can be accessed around the globe in several ways; on-line streaming in multiple formats, including IPv6, local cable television systems and traditional radio broadcasting. In central North Carolina and southern Virginia, WCPE is found on the radio at 89.7 FM.
