WCPE again in running for "Classical Radio Station of the Year"
Radio station WCPE, 89.7 FM, has again been named a finalist for "Classical Station of the Year" in the National Association of Broadcaster's annual Marconi Radio Awards.
WCPE is among five finalists in the classical category. This marks the radio station's third consecutive nomination.
WCPE is a member-supported, noncommercial radio station with a mission of bringing classical music to everyone. Based in Raleigh, N.C., WCPE has broadcast Great Classical Music to central North Carolina and southern Virginia for 27 years. The station now serves listeners throughout North America over a network of repeater transmitters, cable TV systems and affiliated radio stations. The station's Internet audio reaches a worldwide audience.
In addition to WCPE, finalists for "Classical Station of the Year" are KDFC, San Francisco; KFUO-FM, St. Louis; WFMR-FM, Milwaukee; and WRR-FM, Dallas.
An independent task force selected finalists for the Marconi Awards in 22 categories. Ballots will be sent to members of the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Selection Academy in August.
The winners in each category will be announced on September 22 at the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, held during the annual NAB Radio Show. This year's awards dinner, co-sponsored by BMI, will feature a performance by BMI singer/songwriter Delbert McClinton.
Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner, Guglielmo Marconi, the Marconi Awards are given to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio.
The National Association of Broadcasters, based in Washington, D.C., is a trade association that promotes local radio and television stations' interests in Washington and around the world. NAB also serves a growing number of associate and international broadcaster members.
