For Immediate Release:

WCPE'S Spring Pledge Drive Nears Goal

Listener pledges have brought The Classical Station, WCPE, within sight of the radio station's spring fund-raising goal.

At least 4,969 listeners pledged $481,971 in support of Great Classical Music during WCPE's Spring Pledge Drive 2004, which ended at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 28. That amounts to 91.8 per cent of the projected goal of $525,000 pledged over the ten days of the on-air fund-raiser or in the preceding mail campaign.

While the drive fell a little short of the goal, Station Manager Deborah S. Proctor said she was pleased with the results and added that she was confident listeners would make up the difference in coming weeks.

WCPE listeners who have not had an opportunity to pledge are invited to mail in a tax deductible-gift, or to make a donation from WCPE's website, TheClassicalStation.org.

The pledge drive was marked by a continuing growth in pledges from listeners outside WCPE's primary service area in central North Carolina, where the station broadcasts on 89.7 FM. WCPE's music is heard on repeater stations in Aberdeen and Foxfire in Moore County, in New Bern, and in Manteo and Buxton on the North Carolina Outer Banks. WCPE is also heard throughout North America on satellite and on selected radio affiliates and cable TV systems. Listeners worldwide hear WCPE on the Internet.

WCPE has been entirely supported by listener contributions since its inception more than 25 years ago. The independent, nonprofit, member-supported radio station receives no financial contribution from any university or government agency.

Listener support of WCPE funds the station's ongoing operating expenses, and helps to carry out WCPE's mission to bring Great Classical Music to everyone, everywhere.

WCPE thanks its members nationwide for their generous support of Great Classical Music.
