For Immediate Release:
Great Classical Music comes to Bath, NC
In 1705 Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the greatest composers to ever live, was a 20-year-old church organist in Germany. At the same time, thousands of miles away, hardy settlers were founding the town of Bath in the wilderness of eastern North Carolina.
Now, after all these years, Bach has come to Bath, along with Beethoven, Brahms and a host of other great composers.
Classical music fans in Bath can enjoy the music they love on radio station WZPE. The station went on the air August 27.
WZPE is a sister station to The Classical Station, WCPE, a member-supported radio station based in Wake Forest. The new station relays WCPE's Great Classical Music programming 24 hours a day.
WZPE broadcasts at a frequency of 90.1 FM with a power of 675 watts, powerful enough to provide a clear stereo signal throughout Bath and neighboring areas along the Pamlico River. Some listeners in nearby Washington are reporting clear reception from WZPE.
WZPE's broadcasting antenna is mounted on a tower belonging to St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Volunteers from the church and community pitched in to help with preparation at the tower site.
WCPE's mission is to bring Great Classical Music to everyone, everywhere, free of charge. The station has broadcast for 26 years, and since 1998 has employed satellite and Internet technology to reach listeners beyond the traditional limits of its FM radio signal.
WCPE serves central North Carolina and southern Virginia with a 100,000-watt signal on 89.7 FM, broadcasting from northern Wake County. Repeater stations bring the station's programming to New Bern and to the Sandhills communities of Aberdeen, Foxfire, Pinehurst and Southern Pines. A partnership with WUNC Radio brings WCPE to the North Carolina Outer Banks over radio stations in Manteo and Buxton.
Affiliated radio stations and cable TV systems across the country carry WCPE's Great Classical Music by satellite, and owners of home large-dish satellite receivers are also among WCPE's listeners and supporters. In addition, WCPE streams its programming on the Internet in five distinct formats, to reach the widest range of listeners.
