For Immediate Release:
WCPE to present annual service of Lessons and Carols
The Classical Station, WCPE, is proud to take part in a beloved holiday tradition by presenting the annual Christmas Eve service of Lessons and Carols from the Chapel of King's College, Cambridge, England. The program airs live on WCPE Radio at 10 a.m. on Dec. 24.
It has been 75 years since the first Carol Service was broadcast from the magnificent fan-vaulted Chapel of King's College - a service which for many people all over the world marks the beginning of Christmas.
As the sun sets over Cambridge, the nine lessons, read mainly by members of the College, from a Chorister to the Provost, tell the story of the loving purposes of God as revealed in the Bible. The Choir sings carols old and new and leads the congregation in traditional Christmas hymns in this 90-minute program.
Of course, WCPE will bring you the finest in traditional holiday favorites along with Great Classical Music throughout the day Christmas Eve. Then, at 7 p.m., join Al Ruocchio, host of the WCPE Opera House, and a world of opera stars for The Great Sacred Music of Christmas.
On Christmas day you can awaken to glorious holiday favorites including Handel's Messiah, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Bach's Christmas Oratorio and all the great carols of Christmas.
WCPE listeners in central North Carolina and southern Virginia can enjoy this program on 89.7 FM. WCPE is heard in the Sandhills communities on 88.3 FM, and along the Outer Banks on 90.5 FM and 90.9 FM. WCPE reaches listeners worldwide in streaming audio from .
The staff and volunteers of WCPE wish you and your family the best for the holiday season. Merry Christmas!
