For Immediate Release:
Twenty-five years of Great Classical Music
It's a safe bet that no one knew just what was in store when they fired up that hand-made transmitter for the first time on a summer day in 1978.
Who would have guessed that a tiny, volunteer-run radio station, broadcasting from the bedroom of an old house in Raleigh, North Carolina, would one day be heard around the world?
Now The Classical Station, WCPE, is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and we want you to be a part of the fun.
Listen to WCPE for our Silver Anniversary Celebration, Friday, July 18, 2003. Through-out the day we'll air stories and interviews giving a retrospective of WCPE's 25 years of broadcasting. Listen also for your chance to win classical compact discs and tickets to area concerts and performances.
You can find up-to-the-minute information on WCPE's Silver Anniversary Celebration from our web site, TheClassicalStation.org. While you're at the web site, check out our anniversary edition WCPE T-shirt and coffee mug.
And be on the lookout for other upcoming events, including WCPE's Anniversary Open House and Volunteer Appreciation Party this fall.
Today WCPE is a leading broadcaster of classical music, serving central North Carolina and southern Virginia on 89.7 FM. WCPE reaches listeners throughout North America on C-band satellite and on affiliated cable TV systems and radio stations, while our Internet broadcasts are heard worldwide.
After all this time, WCPE remains a completely listener-supported public radio station. Volunteers still play a vital role in the station's daily operations.
With all that WCPE has accomplished in the last 25 years, the best is yet to come.
