For Immediate Release:
The Classical Station, WCPE, ended its Spring Pledge 2003 on an upbeat note
Friday, April 11, with 5,091 listeners making pledges of $440,921 in
support of Great Classical Music.
Although that amount is less than the station's original goal for the
pledge drive of $500,000, station management kept its promise to end the
drive Friday evening. General Manager Deborah S. Proctor said she was
pleased with the results, given the current condition of the economy and
the situation with war in Iraq.
And in an especially encouraging development, this pledge drive showed the
greatest response to date from persons listening to WCPE on the Internet,
on satellite, and on selected radio affiliates and cable TV systems
throughout the United States. Nearly 21 percent of the total pledges came
from outside the region covered by WCPE's broadcast on 89.7 FM,
demonstrating that WCPE's efforts to reach distant listeners are paying off
in support from these areas.
WCPE listeners who did not have an opportunity to pledge during the on-air
fund-raiser are still invited to mail in a tax deductible-gift, or to
pledge from WCPE's website, TheClassicalStation.org.
WCPE, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary on the air this July, has
been entirely supported by listener contributions since its inception in
1978. WCPE thanks its members nationwide for their generous support of
Great Classical Music.
