For Immediate Release:
WCPE carries Metropolitan Opera worldwide
RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 15, 2001) -- WCPE, The Classical Station, is pleased to announce that weekly broadcasts of the ChevronTexaco-Metropolitan Opera can be heard worldwide at www.wcpe.org, as well as on satellite and selected cable TV systems.
WCPE reaches areas in which no local radio station carries the Met, bringing opera to listeners that might otherwise miss these wonderful live performances from New York's Lincoln Center.
This year's opera schedule begins with the Met Season Preview on Dec. 1, followed by Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg on Dec. 8. Other highlights include Puccini's Tosca, La Boheme and Madama Butterfly; Verdi's Rigoletto; and Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia. WCPE will carry the entire season of Saturday matinee performances through April 20, 2002.
WCPE is a leader in Internet audio technology, perhaps the only public radio station to offer online services in four distinct formats -- RealAudio, Windows Media, QuickTime and MP3 -- to reach the broadest range of listeners. WCPE is a featured content provider on RealAudio's RealGuide page.
WCPE also provides programming free of charge to owners of home C-band satellite receivers throughout North America, and to a number of cable television systems in the U.S. and Canada. (Find WCPE on satellite Galaxy 5, transponder 15, at 5.58 and 6.12 MHz. Owners of 4DTV receivers should tune to G5 958.)
The Metropolitan Opera is in its 62nd season of live broadcasts from New York.
Enjoy the ChevronTexaco-Metropolitan Opera live every Saturday at www.wcpe.org. The start time is usually 1:30 p.m. Eastern, but can be earlier in the case of longer operas. See WCPEâs website for a complete schedule.
WCPE is a member-supported, non-commercial radio station serving central North Carolina and southern Virginia on 89.7 FM.
WCPE, The Classical Station, is excited to work with the ChevronTexaco-Metropolitan Opera in bringing these first-class performances to listeners around the world.
