Christmas and Chanukah, Beethoven and the Met on WCPE
December brings holiday treats for your ears from The Classical Station, WCPE.
The Jewish celebration of Chanukah begins at sundown on December 9. WCPE
presents a special program of music for the Celebration of Lights, hosted
by the late Andrea Rosnick, following the 6 pm BBC news that day. Listen to
win a copy of "InSight & Visions," a CD by the Triangle musical ensemble
Mishpacha.
That day also marks the beginning of Beethovenfest, eight glorious days
featuring Beethoven's best-loved sonatas, symphonies, quartets and more -
as well as masterpieces by composers he inspired! Midnight to midnight,
enjoy a Big Beethoven Birthday Bonanza - all Beethoven, all day long - on
his birthday, December 16. Listen to win Beethoven CDs throughout the day!
The week of Christmas, December 17-25, begins with carols and seasonal
selections - plenty of brass, baroque and other favorites. Then, join host
Al Ruocchio, and a world of opera stars, for WCPE's annual Christmas Eve
Special at 7 pm. Wake to glorious holiday favorites on Christmas Day,
including Handel's Messiah, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Bach's Christmas
Oratorio and all the great carols of Christmas.
Throughout the week before Christmas you'll get at least one chance each
day to win CDs bursting with holiday cheer! This is the season for giving
and we'd like to give something back to the best listening audience a
public radio station could ever wish for. Happy Holidays from WCPE!
The Metropolitan Opera continues to celebrate the genius of Giuseppe Verdi
in this centennial of his death. Listen Dec. 27 at 9 p.m. for "The Met
Celebrates Verdi, Part 2," a compilation of highlights from the Met's vast
television archives. Listen on WCPE while you view the program on UNC-TV.

556-0123 to make your request. Make an early online request on our website,
