Russian Romantics Weekend
January 16 & 17
If it had not happened, no one could have
imagined anything so magnificent, so sensuous,
so perfectly apt. Russian music found its
identity, at long last, at the height of the
Romantic age. The Russian school was suddenly
just there, impatient and brimming with
ideas. You’ll hear what made this era of
Russian music so special.
Mozart Madness
January 25–27
Only three days of this nearly unimaginable
genius? This wunderkind who mastered his
first composition between 9 and 9:30pm on
January 24, 1761—just three days before he
turned five? Well, yes, but what an extraordinary
three days this will be, climaxing with
the anniversary of his birth on January 27.
Simply Strings Weekend
February 20 & 21
The instruments of the violin family, the guitar,
and the harp—all vastly different instruments
which are played differently, held differently,
and produce differing sounds. And yet,
music has been written for each of the members
of the string family that can move us and
call forth deeply held emotions—from elation
to melancholy. Join WCPE for this exploration
of various stringed instruments.
