With an international reputation as a creative, versatile musician renowned for his extensive range of colors, charismatic stage presence and musical vision, Gavriel Lipkind Gavriel Lipkind has forged a career not only on the orchestral stage, but also in solo recitals and chamber music. His intense, compelling performances have led to the press stating, "It is probably impossible to play the cello any better than he." Lipkind performs as part of the Cross Currents Chamber Music Festival, which we're so proud to host in the Triangle. Unique performances will be held to attract many age groups, fit many budgets, and in various creative spaces that get us thinking about Music as Life. The same creative team that put together the Dear Friends: Music from Final Fantasy concerts has concocted a brand new videogame musical experience. North Carolina Symphony presents PLAY! A Video Game Symphony You’ll hear work by renowned video game score composers and see an array of outstanding, eye-catching graphics highlighting memorable moments from each of the games. Bring your picnic and your family (children 12 and under are free) to this fun event at Koka Booth Amphitheatre! 8:30pm 07.11.09

  • Organization: Cross Currents Chamber Music and Arts Festival
    Event: Gale at the Meymandi Theatre At The Murphey School The Opening Gala Concert of the upcoming Cross Currents Chamber Music and Arts Festival (www.crosscurrentsfestival.com) featuring the Brussels Chamber Orchestra will be played at the Meymandi Theatre at the Murphey School, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 8:30 pm.   • Organization: Cross Currents Chamber Music Arts Festival
    Event: Gavriel Lipkind & the Brussels Chamber Orchestra Internationally acclaimed cellist Gavriel Lipkind joins the Brussels Chamber Orchestra for a performance of Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme and Schumann's Cello Concerto in A Minor on July 5 at the Cross Currents Chamber Music Arts Festival. Free Events

  • Organization: North Carolina Symphony
    Event: July 4th FREE concert and fireworks For this Independence Day, the Triangle’s hot spot to be is Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park—for stunning fireworks, yes, but also for thrilling music by the North Carolina Symphony with Assistant Conductor Joan Landry. On July 4 at 7:30pm, the Symphony will set the mood for a night of celebration with a free concert in collaboration in partnership with the Town of Cary. You are welcome to bring your own picnic, blanket and lawn chairs: gates open at 3pm for general lawn seating. More information: ncsymphony.org or 919.733.2750.


  • Organization: Hillsborough Arts Council
    Event: Last Friday The 11th season of Last Fridays continues. At every outdoor Last Fridays, the Hillsborough Arts Council sponsors the center-stage musical act and children's art events on the courthouse square, and new to this year, a Pie Contest! The Council also sponsors the Last Fridays Art Walk and manages the vendor booths.


Auditions

  • Organization: Theatre In The Park Theatre In The Park is auditioning trained opera singers - two sopranos & one tenor -for its production of MASTER CLASS in August. You may audition with an aria from the show (soprano - La Sunnambula or The Letter Scene from Macbeth; tenor - Recondita armiona from Tosca) or you may choose your own. Please bring your own headshot, resume, and sheet music. Piano accompaniment will be provided. Perusal scripts are available for a $5 deposit from the Theatre In The Park office at 107 Pullen Road, Raleigh. (M-F 9-5). Please call Theatre In The Park (919-831-6936) to schedule your audition time. Auditions - July 1 & 2 @ 7PM. Rehearsals begin July 27th


  • Organization: The Orange County Historical Museum The Orange County Historical Museum is looking for artifacts to add to its newest permanent exhibit. Please submit any artifact from Orange County Freedmans school during the Reconstruction time period (1864-1877). If you think you have something from Orange County from this time period and would like to donate it to the Museum, please contact Darcie Beecroft Martin at 919-732-2201 today!


Road Trip!

  • Organization: Crested Butte Music Festival This is no ordinary music extravaganza. From July 4 – 26, festival-goers will hear more than strings and woodwinds in concert halls, they can drink beer and listen to Beethoven in a barn, take in the sounds of a ney (Persian flute), attend home soirees for an intimate concert setting, see what happens when dance troops from Boston and Las Vegas come together to form Rhythm Fusion, and watch stars from the Met and a conductor from the Royal Opera House present Mozart’s “TheMarriage of Figaro.” More information: crestedbuttemusicfestival.com


  • Organization: The Castleton Festival This July, a short drive from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Va. - in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on 550 acres of rolling hills and beautiful lakes, the first annual Castleton festival will begin. The festival will feature the crème de le crème of young artists from around the world, performing in symphonic concerts and four of Benjamin Britten’s famous chamber operas. This new festival is the cornerstone project of the Chateauville Foundation, founded by Maestro Lorin Maazel and his wife, Dietlinde Turban-Maazel, to train and mentor young musicians. It is the only festival in the U.S. devoted to chamber operas. FOUR CHAMBER OPERAS, TWO SYMPHONIC CONCERTS, RECITALS AND A MOVIE. PERFORMANCES OCCUR AT MAAZEL’S ESTATE IN CASTLETON, VA. JULY 3 – 19, 2009

  • Organization: American Dance Festival
    Event: Emanuel Gat Dance American Dance Festival celebrates the work of Israeli Choreographers with a festival-within-the Festival this summer. The Israeli Festival begins with performances by Emmanuel Gat Dance from June 22nd to June 24th. Originally from Israel and now working in France, Gat brings Festival audiences an ADF commissioned World Premiere duet based on a one-of-a-kind artistic collaboration. Complete with music by R. Strauss, Riad al Sunbati, and the Beatles, Winter Variations boasts a most striking intimacy and is danced by returning ADF performers Emanuel Gat and Roy Assaf. The New York Times exclaims, “their synchronicity was amazing, hypnotic…their sinuousness of movement was a constant fascination.” June 22-June 24, 2009, Reynolds Industries Theater at 8 PM


  • Organization: American Dance Festival
    Event: Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet Get ready to move! Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet presents Israeli modern choreographer Ohad Naharin’s Decadance (2007), acclaimed by The New York Times as “dancing that pulls viewers right out of their seats.” Naharin’s work is a choreographic feat that pieces together two decades of material to create an explosive new masterpiece. An incomparable testament to fierce athleticism, Naharin’s choreography requires dancers to commit every gesture with complete concentration and intensity.   • Organization: Duke Performances- Summer Series
    Event: Alina Simone – Outdoors at Duke Gardens Alina Simone’s raw and smoldering vocals rise from her sparse arrangements like stars emerging at dusk. She’s been named one of Billboard’s “Top 12 Bands to Watch.” And she performs outdoors at Duke Gardens. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 7 PM.


  • Organization: The Johnston County and the North Carolina Arts Councils
    Event: Lunch Bunch Series The second performance for the Lunch Bunch series features Anna Lee Crumpton, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, who will perform on harp. She has been a professional harpist since the late 1970s and has performed at about 4,000 weddings and nearly as many other special events. Her musical style turns almost any piece of music she plays into a love song. Her music, all original arrangements, has proven extremely relaxing to people of all ages. Wednesday, June 24th at 12:15pm at First Baptist Church in Smithfield.

  • Organization: North Carolina Symphony
    Event: Free Outdoor Concert in Chapel Hill If you’re looking for a relaxed, outdoor family-outing, then come out and join the North Carolina Symphony (with Resident Conductor William Henry Curry) for an evening under the stars. As part of its tour of summer concerts throughout the state, the North Carolina Symphony will perform on the Village Green at Southern Village in Chapel Hill on June 26 at 7:30pm.   • Organization: Triangle Brass
    Event: Summer Pops Series Come enjoy the second free concert in Triangle Brass Summer Pops Series featuring patriotic music and soloist John Jones on euphonium! The concert will be held in Sertoma Amphitheatre in Bond Park in Cary. Information and directions: TriangleBrass.org Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 7 PM.


  • Organization: Ruggero Piano
    Event: Fourth Friday Mix Please join friends at Ruggero Piano each 4th Friday for the Fourth Friday Mix, which is a free concert at Ruggero Piano's Bosendorfer Hall. More information: ruggeropiano.com June 26th at 7:30pm.


  • Organization: The Greater Greensboro Chapter American Guild of Organists

  • Organization: Fayetteville Arts Council's
    Event: Fourth Friday Exhibits, entertainment, refreshments and featured artists all combine to bring the art of Fayetteville to everyone free of charge! Businesses in the four and a half block of historic downtown Fayetteville join the action and become artistic venues on Fourth Friday, featuring the arts in all forms, for all ages.


Concerts for a Cause

  • Organization: Women’s Voices Chorus
    Event: Just Us Chickens For children (and adults) of all ages: music, stories and songs about animals. Donations go to Paws4Ever. The concert will feature the chorus, a storyteller and a guitarist/songleader. No charge for admission, with donations accepted for Paws4Ever, a nonprofit for the welfare of animals.
